QuikTrip is rolling out its new Generation 4 (GEN4) prototype, signaling a shift back toward enhancing its core convenience store model after years focused on large-format travel centers. The first location is set to open in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in spring 2026, introducing a 6,400-square-foot format—approximately 1,000 square feet larger than its prior Generation 3 (GEN3) stores, which typically range from 5,200 to 5,500 square feet—designed to improve layout efficiency and overall customer flow.
A major driver behind the GEN4 design is an expanded focus on foodservice. The QT Kitchens platform will feature a kitchen roughly twice the size of a standard location, along with a dedicated pickup area for mobile and quick-order customers. This aligns with broader industry trends, as convenience retailers continue prioritizing made-to-order and grab-and-go offerings to increase margins and drive repeat traffic.
The updated prototype also incorporates physical and operational upgrades, including a more open store layout, glass vestibule entry, and expanded storefront windows. These enhancements are intended to create a more modern retail environment while improving visibility, circulation, and employee efficiency. QuikTrip has also indicated the design will support energy efficiency and long-term operational performance.
Additional GEN4 stores are planned for Joplin, Missouri and Wichita, Kansas, with more openings later in Tulsa and Crestwood, Missouri. The Crestwood site, located within a mixed-use development alongside national retailers and new housing, highlights QuikTrip’s continued strategy of targeting high-growth, infill locations. Overall, the GEN4 rollout reflects a balanced approach—combining innovation in foodservice with a refined, scalable store format built for evolving consumer demand.
